About Us

Our Story

Meet Brad.  Brad is the owner and creator of Sabot Ready Woodworks. Brad has cultivated an interest in woodworking over many years. Regretting not taking shop classes in high school, opportunity knocked when he inherited some woodworking tools from a family friend back in 2015. With nothing but a vision and an old 105mm tank casing, Brad mounted some wood onto a lathe and just started turning.  Although the end result didn’t look anything like a HESH, (and the wood may have launched off the lathe and narrowly missed Brad), he was hooked and through trial and error, began to teach himself the In’s and Out’s of wood turning. After a bit of a hiatus, and watching endless woodworking videos on YouTube, Brad tried various techniques and projects, with varying degrees of success, and slowly experimented, learning as he went. Purchasing a larger lathe, he then set his mind to spinning a Sabot for his other 105mm casing. Although it had the rough shape, and it required a bit of refinement, he had a concept that he would go onto refine and perfect. Posting a picture of it on his Facebook generated some unexpected interest and orders started to come in across Canada.  This lead to the inception and creation of Sabot Ready Woodworks and was officially launched in January 2020.

He then began branching out, making charcuterie boards, coin holders, laser engraved plaques and more. As of Summer 2024, Brad has hand-carved over 200 105mm wooden toppers for people across Canada from Newfoundland, to British Columbia to Northwest Territories.

With a passion for creation, and trying new techniques, Brad continually strives to learn and apply new techniques as he creates new items and masterpieces. He enjoys spending time in his shop when ever his day job doesn’t have him otherwise employed. Thanks for following Brad on his journey as he continues to create in his woodshop and helping to turn his hobby into a small business.

What is a Sabot?

We often get asked “what is a Sabot?” or “why Sabot Ready?”, or “how do you say it”. Sabot (pronounced Sab-Oh), is a short term used within the Tanker community, and any other armoured vehicle gunner, for the primary anti-tank ammunition used. Within the Canadian Tanks, when the loader has the Sabot round loaded, he announces to the crew “Sabot Ready!”  With Brad turning Sabots on his lathe as fast as orders were coming in, and when he would message the customer to announce their “Sabot is Ready” the dots connected, and Sabot Ready Woodworks was born.
